TV NOTES & NEWS
NEW YORK — What do you do when a music superstar has to drop out of your TV show? If you're "Saturday Night Live," you find an equally big name to replace her.
Mariah Carey will be the musical guest on Saturday's episode, which is capping off four consecutive post-writers' strike episodes. Janet Jackson had been scheduled to perform, but dropped out after coming down with the flu.
"Superbad" star Jonah Hill is hosting the show.
This week will mark Carey's fourth appearance on "SNL," but her first in more than a decade. She'll appear in advance of the release of her latest album, "E=MC2," due out in April. The first single, "Touch My Body," currently sits at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
HOLLYWOOD — It's looking more and more like "ER" may have more life left in it.NBC is reportedly talking with Warner Bros., which produces the series, about bringing the show back for 2008-09. That would make 15 seasons for "ER," which trails only "Law & Order" and "The Simpsons" (in their 18th and 19th seasons) in longevity among current scripted series. When this season started, it was about a 50-50 proposition as to whether it would be the last for "ER," which in its mid-'90s heyday was the No. 1 show on television. The show, which passed the 300-episode mark in the fall, was halted during the writers' strike. It has resumed production and is scheduled to return for six episodes starting April 10.
