College roundup: No. 7 BC3 volleyball keeps rolling with sweeps; SRU field hockey splits OT games

Butler County Community College women’s volleyball remained unbeaten to start the season after going 2-0 last week with straight-set sweeps.

The No. 7 Pioneers routed Penn State-DuBois 25-13, 25-15, 25-6 on Tuesday, then followed that up with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-20 win Thursday over Penn State-Greater Allegheny. BC3 is now 9-0.

Anora Robare recorded 34 assists Thursday, just shy of her career-high 37 she set five days prior. She had 26 assists in Tuesday’s win. Freeport grad and middle hitter Josie Russo had 18 kills and a career-high 15 digs against PSU-Greater Allegheny, which followed a 12-kill performance Tuesday.

BC3 visits Penn State-Fayette at 7 p.m. Monday.

BC3 men’s golf loses

The Pioneers fell Wednesday 310-319 to Westmoreland County Community College at Glengarry Golf Links. Mitchell Covert shot a 77, and Parker Worsley carded a 78. BC3 is 1-2 this season.

SRU weekend results

Slippery Rock women’s soccer (1-2, 1-0) opened PSAC West play by beating Edinboro 3-1 at home. Marissa Salisbury, Sophia Palermo and Abby Paterline all scored.

SRU field hockey (3-1) split two overtime games, losing to Lander 3-2 on Olivia Bond’s penalty stroke goal on Saturday before topping Converse 2-1 Sunday in OT on Lucy Hutchinson’s winner.

The men’s soccer team (2-0-1) fell to the District of Columbia 3-2 on Saturday despite first-half goals from Kaden Reynolds and Zsombor Retfalvi. Cornelis Dedecker assisted on both.

The Rock women’s volleyball (3-4) dropped two games Saturday in the Hall of Fame City Challenge, 3-0 to Illinois-Springfield and 3-2 to Bloomsburg. Callie Chevalier had 21 combined kills in the two matches. SRU won both of Friday’s tournament games 3-0 over Malone and 3-1 over Bluefield State.

Alissia Kivi went 3-0 for SRU women’s tennis at the Bucknell Invitational, and Nicole Kempton was 2-0. Two doubles pairs went 3-0, as well.
