Miller Minutes: ‘You can be part of multiple sports, arts and community events this weekend’
There was a unique joke circling the internet this past Sunday as two major televised events graced screens: Sunday football and the crowning of Miss America.
Most of the quips were akin to women calling this day “Super Bowl Sunday” and fighting their significant others for the remote. Since I despise football, I was 100% supportive of inconveniencing anyone wearing a jersey. Even still — Go Steelers.
I wanted to draw attention to the pageant for several reasons. One being that I knew one of this year’s contestants, and another being that the winner was aptly crowned. Miss New York, Cassie Donegan, won the title and was a popular contender from the start. All I know is this: her rousing rendition of “A Darker Shade of Blue” stole my heart. If you have a moment this week, look it up.
The Miss America Pageant and football’s first Sunday couldn’t be more different, but they share a common thread with their large, dedicated fanbases. Their viewers have waited months for this moment, proving organized events to be the ultimate culmination of passion.
It is no different with our local events you see in and around Butler County. Heart and soul is put into them for the audience’s enjoyment.
