Butler Transit Authority enforces bus washing for BART
After repairing corrosion accumulated from winter wear, the Butler Transit Authority is committing to making sure the damage does not occur again.
The authority’s board of directors voted 4-0 Tuesday, Sept. 9, to update the memorandum of understanding between the authority and the Alliance for Nonprofit Resources, which manages Butler Area Rural Transit for the county. Directors Tricia Kradel and Lance Calvert were absent.
The decision came just one month after the board voted to pay $14,720 for repairs needed to the bus garage, specifically on Butler Area Rural Transit’s side.
Before the vote, executive director John Paul said he spoke with Alliance for Nonprofit Resources’ leadership and received a verbal agreement to the amendment.
“(The amendment) is essentially asking that they just agree to wash their vehicles every day so the salt and chemicals aren’t coming back in from winter maintenance and sitting on the floor forever,” authority solicitor Rebecca Black said.
Under the amendment, Butler Area Rural Transit’s buses must be washed daily during peak winter months — from Nov. 1 to April 30 of each year. Paul said if inclement weather occurs outside these dates, he will communicate with the drivers to ensure buses are washed.
Black said the memorandum of understanding between Alliance for Nonprofit Resources and Butler Transit Authority is set to be renewed next year, meaning the addendum will be fully incorporated in the next rendition.
While the alliance still needs to formally agree to the amendment, Paul said he is confident that everything will be in place before Nov. 1.
The next Butler Transit Authority Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
