2 men sentenced in drug cases

Two Butler men were sentenced Tuesday in unrelated cases involving drug sales.

Jason S. Draper, 36, pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy.

Butler County Judge William Shaffer sentenced Draper to serve 18 to 36 months in prison and pay about $1,000 in restitution.

According to court records, Draper was arrested as part of a state Attorney General Drug Strike Force investigation.

Draper, one of 12 people arrested as part of the same investigation, reportedly sold 27.3 grams of cocaine to a confidential police informant who was working as part of the investigation, according to court records.

The alleged drug deal, according to court records, occurred in Butler in August 2009, while the defendant still was on probation for a 2007 drunken driving conviction. He still could face further punishment for violating the terms of his probation.

During the same court session Tuesday, the judge sentenced Chad D. Sutter, 24, to serve 6 to 12 months in prison.

Sutter, who pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver, had been arrested as part of a sweep in November by the Butler County Drug Task Force. The task force at that time arrested 12 people, but said the defendants were not an organized drug ring.

Court officials said Sutter, at the time of his arrest, was still on parole for a 2008 drug possession case. The judge ordered Sutter to spend another 9 to 23 months in prison for violating his parole. However the defendant was immediately paroled in this case, having credit for time he served while awaiting trial.
