Ruth E. (Heckert) McIlvain, 100, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025.

She was born in Callery on May 23, 1925, to the late Albert and Myrtle (Kennedy) Heckert.

Ruth graduated from Butler Area High School in 1943, and was homemaker, wife, mother and secretary. She was known for her wise, caring and loving personality. Ruth enjoyed dining out and cheering for the Steelers.

She was the beloved wife of the late Albert McIlvain, whom she married in 1947; mother of Donald McIlvain and Nancy (McIlvain) Secunda; grandmother of Patrick (Megan) McIlvain, Sara (Secunda) Mallia, Shane (Lezlie) and Stacy Secunda; great-grandmother of Long Truong and Harriet and George (Ann) McIlvain. Ruth is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Albert.

MCILVAIN — Family and friends of Ruth E. (Heckert) McIlvain, who died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.

Burial will be held privately at Summit Presbyterian Cemetery.
