Public hearing at Slippery Rock township’s Sept. 8 meeting to address potential changes to zoning ordinance
Slippery Rock Township will hold a public hearing during at 7:45 p.m. Sept. 8 to consider amendments to the township’s zoning legislation in regards to establishing electronic vehicle stations and new requirements for private cemeteries, family plots and short-term rentals.
According to the township, “enactment of this proposed zoning ordinance amendment will be beneficial to the health, safety, and welfare of the Township and consistent with the MPC (Pennsylvania Municipalities Code).”
Full details on the proposed amendments can be found from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Slippery Rock Township Municipal Building, 155 Branchton Road, or at the township’s website, www.srtwp.com
Proposed requirements for an application for a new burial cemetery include they be at least 2 acres and that there be no water supply intakes within 1 mile.
Applicants under these amendments must submit a plot plan drawing for approval by the township’s planning commission.
They would also need to obtain a permit from the local registrar or State Registrar of Vital Statistics, and a legal agreement which states that burials are restricted persons related by blood or marriage but access to the cemetery shall not be restricted.
Proposed requirements address matters that include living conduct, septic sewage systems if property is not connected to the public sewer, smoke detectors, street parking and zoning permits.
An annual inspection by the township would be required.
Mobile homes, travel trailers, campers or similar structures or vehicles that can be pulled by another vehicle will not be allowed for short-term rental under this ordinance.
Any public charging station for electric vehicles should meet the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry standards. Private charging stations are exempt from this ordinance but still must be installed by a qualified professional and meet all other regulations.
Other suggested requirements deal with the access and location of the charging stations on parking lots — they must be situated at convenient parking locations accessible from on-site buildings, and in areas not prone to standing water and flooding, in a way that does not block sight triangles at intersections and aisles.
In addition, aspects such as size, paving and access for people with disabilities are all addressed.
