Keystone Safari celebrates arrival of new baby giraffe
Keystone Safari announced the birth of a baby giraffe on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
The female giraffe calf was born around 9 a.m. Friday at the 144-acre animal and adventure park in Grove City, to parents Levi and Blue Jeans. She arrived at 154 pounds and is already standing nearly 6 feet tall.
“Keystone Safari’s animal care team closely observed the birth, allowing space for mom and baby to bond naturally,” a news release said. “After a successful first nursing and some well-deserved rest, the park’s veterinarian and senior staff conducted a thorough first wellness exam. We’re happy to report the calf is healthy with no initial concerns.”
People can view the giraffe family in the animal park’s giraffe barn, where the mother and baby will have the ability to move to a private space as desired. People are asked to speak quietly while in the barn, which may close for 15-30 minutes throughout the day to allow quiet time for nursing and rest.
“During these breaks, guests may still view the giraffes through the designated observation windows,” the news release said.
Keystone Safari will hold a naming contest by allowing each guest that pays for park admission to receive one free entry into the naming contest through Labor Day. Staff will select the winning name, and the winner will receive two season passes to the park.
Levi and Blue Jeans were already parents to Calvin in 2017, Timber in 2021, and Keyari in 2023. Levi and Blue Jeans were raised at Living Treasures Wild Animal Park in New Castle before moving to the safari in late 2018.
