Mars, Seneca teachers to be honored

PITTSBURGH — The Teacher Excellence Center will honor the top seven teachers in Southwestern Pennsylvania Thursday at Carnegie Musical Hall, with a teacher from the Mars School District and three from the Seneca Valley School District up for the award.

The top seven teachers of the 2005 school year will be narrowed down from a pool of 106 teacher honorees, which were selected from 75 school districts. The schools of the seven winners will receive a $2,500 grant.

From Mars, Bruce Watson, a science teacher in the middle school, is nominated. From Seneca Valley, two high school teachers, James Nagle, an art teacher, and Mary Wildman, a business teacher, are nominated, and a middle school teacher, Todd Karman, who teaches English, also is nominated.

Attendance, which is free, is expected to exceed 1,000 people. The evening includes a reception and awards presentation.
