10:08: Raiders fall, new coaches start 1-2
Moniteau’s season-opening win gave new head coach Clay Kohlmeyer his first victory. But the county’s two other new skippers, Knoch’s T.J. Wiley and Seneca Valley’s Don Barclay, were not so lucky. The Knights fell to Kiski Area 21-0, and the Raiders lost in a shootout to Bethel Park 43-26.
9:54: Baggetta powers in, Butler wins
Nicco Baggetta, Butler’s new starting quarterback, dove in from 1 yard out in overtime to make it 32-26, according to reporter John Enrietto, and the Golden Tornado defense held on Shaler’s ensuing attempt to avenge last year’s Week 1 loss.
Another Seneca Valley touchdown, another onside-kick attempt. But this one is unsuccessful. The Raiders trail Bethel Park 36-26 late in the game and need at least two quick defensive stops or turnovers.
9:35: Shaler ties it up, Slippery Rock has early lead
Despite a late score from Butler, Shaler covered the length of the field and scored with 30 seconds left in regulation to make it 26-26.
In District 10 football, Slippery Rock is up early, 13-7 over Fairview, after this first-half bomb from Doug Popovec to Logan Schlobohm:

9:30: Seneca Valley catches break to stay alive
The Raiders converted an onside kick down 29-13 and have possession of the ball near midfield. The big play came early in the fourth quarter. And as this is being typed, quarterback Andrew Loebig broke a couple tackles and broke down the right sideline for a running touchdown of about 60 yards to cut into the deficit. He had thrown a 69-yard touchdown moments earlier to set up the onside kick. Two-point conversion is no good.
9:24: Moniteau wins! Butler takes lead
The Warriors are starting the season undefeated after a difficult 2024 season. They beat Coudersport at home 17-0 to open Clay Kohlmeyer’s coaching tenure 1-0.
Mark Klemz put Butler back ahead of Shaler with 2:15 left, according to reporter John Enrietto, scoring on a 17-yard run to make it 26-20.
9:03: Shaler ties it up with Butler
Despite 116 yards and a touchdown from RB Mark Klemz, according to reporter John Enrietto, Butler now finds itself tied with Shaler 20-20 with a quarter to play. The Tornado led at halftime 12-6.
9:00: Moniteau up two touchdowns
The Warriors are closing in on their first win since 2023 and first in the Clay Kohlmeyer era, leading Coudersport 14-0 in the third quarter. After an 0-10 season, Moniteau hired a new coach and has been focused on rebuilding the program. Kohlmeyer anticipated 31 players would come out at training camp. A win over Coudersport would go a long way to shedding some of the Warriors’ recent demons.
8:30: Freeport scores in two ways, neither on offense
The Yellowjackets broke a scoreless tie in a big way to start the second half. Amos Glenn returned the second-half kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown, then Dawson Gaillot returned an interception 22 yards for a score to make it 14-0 Freeport just 1:50 after halftime.
8:19: Mars dominating at the half

RB H. Schroder - 1 car., 42 yds., TD
8:06: Butler leads at half
Butler’s on the way to avenging last year’s Week 1 loss to Shaler, leading 12-6 at halftime on the road. Despite two turnovers for each team, the Tornado have out-produced Shaler 135 yards to 51 and have 11 first downs to Shaler’s four. Nash Cuffman and Jake Kollinger caught TD passes, according to reporter John Enrietto.
8:05: Mars’ Hein off to another hot start
Last year, Planets receiver Gabe Hein had a breakout game in Florida to start the season, hauling in more than 200 yards and setting a single-game program record. He’s off to a similar start tonight. The senior Sacred Heart commit has caught three TDs for Mars, which leads 28-0 in the first half over Beaver, according to reporter Brendan Howe.
8:04: Freeport-Indiana scoreless at half
It’s been a sluggish offensive start for the Yellowjackets, according to reporter Derek Pyda. Freeport has managed just 86 yards (80 for Indiana) in a 0-0 game at the half. Freeport’s Judah Thompson attempted a 43-yard field goal that just missed late in the second quarter. (This was updated at 8:20 p.m. with Judah Thompason attempting the field goal.)
7:22: Freeport scoreless, SV falls behind early
It’s a scoreless first quarter for Freeport, which is tied with Indiana heading into the next 12 minutes. In other scores, Bethel Park gets the first points against Seneca Valley and takes a 7-0 lead late in the first.
7:11: Mars’ Yurisinek settling in nicely
It’s a good start for Yurisinek, according to reporter Brendan Howe. The QB hits Gabe Hein for two early TDs to make it 14-0 just nine minutes in.
7: Mars starting Colin Yurisinek at QB, ready to face Beaver
The Planets’ new-look backfield has been settled: it’s QB Colin Yurisinek and RB Ayden Yocum getting the start against Beaver tonight. Eagle reporter Brendan Howe will have updates from the game.
Also, a reminder tonight’s Slippery Rock game is at SRU’s football stadium due to some construction around the high school field. The Rockets take on Fairview at 8 p.m.
