JEFFERSON TWP — Firefighters prevented a scrap yard blaze Saturday night from spreading to a nearby wooded area by Victory Road.

Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company said it’s undetermined what caused a pile of junk from automobile parts at EV Salvage to ignite.

Eight Saxonburg firefighters responded to the 7:33 p.m. call. The Middlesex Volunteer Fire Company assisted.

Crews cleared the scene at 9:20 p.m.
