Police: Man made threats, caused residents to flee home

A Mars man was charged after repeatedly threatening and intimidating residents in a home, police said.

Jason Richard Starr, 26, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of false imprisonment and simple assault following the alleged Aug. 14 incident.

Police said they responded to a residence on Davidson Road in Adams Township for reports of a man out of control and smashing things. The caller said the man was known to have weapons in previous incidents.

Police said before the incident, Starr had come downstairs to shut off the television on the home’s main level. Police said Starr then slammed doors on the main level and demanded the caller do what he told them to do.

Police said a resident of the home retreated into a room, to which Starr kicked the door in before the resident was able to flee the home.

Another resident also tried to leave, but Starr reportedly physically blocked the entrance, preventing them from leaving, according to police. The resident later convinced Starr to allow them to leave under the guise of turning off a lawn sprinkler, police said.

Once outside, the resident ran to a neighbor’s house while calling the police, according to the report. Starr reportedly chased the resident before turning around, police said.

Police also witnessed several holes punched in the wall of the residence.

Starr is being held in Butler County Prison on a $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 27 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.

This story was updated on Aug. 27, 2025 to reflect a sword was not involved in the Aug. 14 incident. A previous version of this story incorrectly said Starr was carrying a sword on his back during the incident.
