1 hospitalized after 2-car collision in Penn Township
One person was taken to Allegheny General Hospital as a result of a two-car crash at the intersection of Route 8 and Airport Road in Penn Township on Tuesday night, Aug. 12.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, and involved a dark blue SUV and a small red Volkswagen. One of the vehicles ended up over a hillside.
According to Penn Township police, the crash occurred when one vehicle traveling southbound on Route 8 “T-boned” another vehicle traveling eastbound on Airport Road.
While occupants of both vehicles reported to police they saw a green light at the same time before the collision, video footage from the intersection showed a different story.
“We looked at video cameras and both video cameras showed that the car that came from West Airport Road, eastbound onto Route 8, ran a red light,” officer Stephen Setnar said.
The other two occupants “appeared to be OK,” according to Setnar.
Butler Ambulance Service transported the injured individual to AGH. Both the Penn and Middlesex Township police departments responded to the scene.
