SUMMIT TWP — The Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania is hosting a series of training courses for volunteers at emergency shelters and to provide hurricane disaster relief.

The courses, called Sheltering Fundamentals Boot Camp, are open to people ages 18 and older. Participants must also be able to deploy for two to three weeks, be able to work 12-hour shifts while deployed, be able to pass a background check, complete a health status record, and complete a Red Cross volunteer application.

In Butler County, a course is being held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Herman Volunteer Fire Department, 789 Herman Drive in Herman.
