The Harmony Borough Council on Tuesday night:Hired Rick Troskey for summer help at $8 per hour from June 1 until the end of August.Approved a request by Saul McCormick to place a handicap parking space on the south side of Wood Street near the turnaround for six months.Set the public hearing for the proposed revised zoning ordinance at the council's meeting at 7 p.m. June 7.
The Mars School Board on Tuesday:Heard Joseph Cunningham, director of Butler County Vocational-Technical School, thank board member Cynthia Yeager for her years of service on the vo-tech board. Yeager is leaving that board. Cunningham said she worked on teacher contracts, curriculum development and other programs during her tenure. He presented her with a hand bell and plaque. Karen Smail will now be the Mars representative on the vo-tech board.Bought two small parcels of land adjacent to the middle school property and signed a right of way agreement on a third. The three parcels connect the middle school property to the 39-acre site of the proposed new school for grades five and six. The 3.52-acre parcel was bought for $155,000 from Alvin Baird, and the 3.65-acre parcel was bought from Hugh and Lillian Winning for $175,000.The right of way agreement for the third parcel is between the district land and S & A Homes. The agreement will give the district access to the new building off Winfield Manor Drive in a proposed housing plan off Meredith Drive. All properties are on the east side of the middle school property.
Supervisors, at their meeting Tuesday night:Voted 3-0 to donate $350 to the Penn Township Veterans Association for its annual Memorial Day service, to be held at their memorial at Three Degree and Airport roads at 2 p.m. May 29. A buffet and band concert will follow. It is open to the public.Announced the traffic signals at Route 8 and Airport Road have been repaired.Will consider amending the township ordinance to distinguish between different types of businesses when determining the number of parking spaces that will be required.Voted 3-0 to reduce the inspection fee for manufactured homes placed on foundations from $300 to $250.Voted 3-0 to have Connectivity of Ingomar install a patch cable box for data lines in the municipal building at a cost of $1,355.Began the process of implementing a transportation impact fee for new residential and commercial development in the township by having the municipality's engineers prepare two reports.Announced they will vote at their next meeting, May 16, on a mandatory tap-in ordinance for any structure within 150 of the Saxonburg Area Authority's new sewer lines.Said the township expects to be reimbursed $82,872 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for work done to repair damage from last September's flooding.
Council, at its meeting Tuesday:Announced that it will hold a public hearing May 17 on zoning issues related to an office expansion in town.Attorney Ron Coyer of 631 Kelly Blvd. plans to build an addition on his office building. The hearing at 6:45 p.m. will be followed by a special meeting at 7 p.m. for council members to act on the addition. Both meetings will be at the borough building.The hearing is required in the expansion case, but all plans are conforming to borough regulations, said Jesse Hines, code enforcement officer.A regular council workshop will follow that evening.
