INDIANA — A Pennsylvania state trooper faces life in prison after a jury took about six hours to reject his testimony and convict him in the bloody slashing death of his live-in girlfriend's estranged husband.

The Indiana County jury returned the verdict about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Trooper Kevin Foley, 43, will be formally sentenced June 1, but the first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without parole.

Foley was the last witness the jury heard, taking the stand to deny killing Dr. John Yelenic in his Blairsville home on April 13, 2006.

Yelenic was to sign his papers the following day finalizing the divorce from his wife, Michele, who was living with Foley.

Foley's attorney said he will appeal.

INDIANA — A coroner said a student found dead in an Indiana (Pa.) University dormitory had been drinking heavily the night before his death.Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said Brenton Croll, 18, of Roaring Spring, Blair County, was found dead by a friend around noon Wednesday.Croll lived in Lawrence Hall but never made it back to his own room. Instead, he stayed in a friend's room on the dorm's first floor where he was seen about 7 a.m. when another student woke up for class. That student returned later and called 911 when he couldn't awaken Croll.An autopsy is scheduled today. Baker said foul play is not suspected.Campus police are investigating but have not commented on the incident.
