Code officer job made full time in SR

SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough council addressed a few staffing changes at Tuesday's meeting.

Council, by a 6-0 vote, approved the changing of code enforcement officer Christian Laskey's status from part time to full time.

Councilman Gene Allison was absent from the meeting.

Council President Russell Karl said the move to full time resulted from citizen input.

“We had already decided to go full time (with code enforcement),” Karl said.

Laskey initially was offered an internship over the summer before being hired part time while he finished his education at Slippery Rock University.

“Christian graduates next week and then will start in January as full time,” Karl said. “It'll be an increase in volume rather than responsibility.”

Also, the borough is one step closer to having a borough manager, something that has been discussed in the past couple of years.Earlier this month borough administrator Lucinda Lipko resigned to take another municipal position elsewhere. Her final day was Dec. 2.Council President Russell Karl said council intends to hire a borough manager in lieu of filling the borough administrator position.“We're still discussing the specifics of the borough manager position,” Karl said. Also seeing an expanded role will be Kristina McCullough, who council approved 6-0 to the role of full-time borough secretary and treasurer. Karl said McCullough has served for the borough for five years as a part-time secretary but also had been responsible for some of the borough's finances with the exception of payroll. He said the move is largely retroactive. “She keeps track of all our accounts and our bills,” Karl said.Mayor Jondavid Longo said there is an open invitation to Lipko, the former borough administrator, to appear before the council for formal recognition of her service. “We want to thank Lucinda and recognize for her time and service to the borough,” Longo said.Council also approved retaining Lutz, Pawk and Black as legal representatives for a two-year term ending in 2021, and approved a number of appointments and reappointments to various commissions and boards.
