Fritters

Sophia Elizabeth Friters, 83, of Cloverleaf Farms in Brooksville, Fla., formerly of Karns City R.D. 2, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chicora Medical Center after a long illness.

Born in Bellaire, Ohio, Oct. 17, 1924, she was a daughter of Michael and Josephine Guzick Stanek.

She was a member of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Brooksville, the Ladies Guild of the church, the AARP and the Ladies Social Club at Cloverleaf Farms.

Mrs. Friters was a beautician in the Petrolia-Karns City area for 27 years and operated a beauty shop at her home for 17 of those years.

A favorite thought of hers was, "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but he did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way."

Surviving are a son, Thomas T. Friters and his wife, Susan, of Medical Center Road, Chicora; two daughters, Christine J. Sedano and her husband, Jesus, of El Paso, Texas, and Shirley Jackalone of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan, Ashley, Joshua, Bridget, Jason and Tiffany; and five great-grandchildren, Avery, Skylar, Jacob, Darcie and Zoey. She also is survived by a sister, Mary Rudish and her husband, Ralph, of Lafayette, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She married Theodore "Ted" Friters May 10, 1947, in Bellaire, Ohio; and he died Dec. 18, 1986. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Alex J. Stanek.

<B>FRITERS</B> — Friends of Sophia Elizabeth Friters, who died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>Richard d. Hillis funeral home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. David Dewitt as celebrant.
