Rev. Kenneth Duncan

The Rev. Kenneth L. Duncan, 88, of North Hills, formerly of Gibsonia, died Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

Born July 31, 1916, in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, he was the son of Clarence R. and Phoebe Killinger Duncan.

He was a 1934 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, a 1941 graduate of Maryville College in Tennessee and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where he earned his bachelor of sacred theology degree in 1944 and his master of sacred theology degree in 1945.

Rev. Duncan was ordained in 1944 at the Freedom Presbyterian Church, where he served as pastor from 1944 to 1948. He then was pastor at the Alexandria Presbyterian Church from 1948 to 1959; and from 1959 until his retirement in 1983, he was pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Gibsonia, where he remained pastor emeritus.

Upon his retirement, he was interim pastor at the Valencia Presbyterian Church in 1983; the Clinton Presbyterian Church of Saxonburg in 1986 and the Old Union Presbyterian Church of Mars in 1992.

He was a 33rd degree Mason, the first volunteer chaplain at Passavant Hospital and a volunteer with the Salvation Army and Boy Scouts. He also was an umpire with the Richland Little League for years.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen Houp Duncan; two children, Diane D. Gardner of North Hills and Lois J. Kauffman of Oil City; and a sister, Faye Duncan Houp of Mechanicsburg.

A brother preceded him in death.

DUNCAN - Friends of the Rev. Kenneth L. Duncan, who died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, will be received from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Heckert Road, Richland Township. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Gibsonia, 4003 Gibsonia Road, Richland Township. The Rev. Dr. Kevin Gourley, Rev. Dr. John Hollingsworth and Rev. Dr. Darcy Hawk will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.Memorial donations may be made to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 616 N.
