Kenneth Harry Cooper, 94, of Normal Avenue in Slippery Rock died at 6 a.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Liberty Township, Mercer County, June 14, 1913, he was a son of Arthur James Cooper and Margaret Shanor.

He was the oldest member and currently held the longest membership at the North Liberty Presbyterian Church in Liberty Township and had served as a trustee on several occasions. He also belonged to the Willing Workers Sunday school class for years.

Mr. Cooper retired from the maintenance department at Slippery Rock University in 1978. Prior to that, he was a machinist for various machine shops and previously had been a deep coal miner in Mercer County. He also was a handyman in the Slippery Rock area for years after his retirement.

He was a member of the Slippery Rock AARP. He belonged to the Slippery Rock Grange for more than 50 years and achieved the 7th degree and also belonged to the Pomona Grange in Butler County. He was a former member of the Slippery Rock Odd Fellows and the Slippery Rock Good Fellows. He was faithful bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He faithfully attended Bible study at the Slippery Rock Senior Center on Thursdays. He enjoyed traveling and visiting the 50 states, Canada and Mexico and had enjoyed many cruises.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Ferguson of Sharon; three sons, Clifford Cooper and his wife, Ruth, of Butler, Thomas Cooper and his wife, Nina, of Slippery Rock and Robert Cooper and his wife, Suzanne, of Alta Loma, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazie Edna Patterson Cooper, who he married Sept. 15, 1932; three sisters, Lois Boyer, Helen Bond and Mae Cooper; and a brother, James Cooper.

<B>COOPER</B> — Friends of Kenneth Harry Cooper, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the North Liberty Presbyterian Church, North Liberty-Plain Grove Road, Grove City, with the Rev. Jerry Mahaffey, church pastor, and the Rev. David Barnhouse, pastor of the Slippery Rock Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the North Liberty Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to Lifting Burdens Mission Inc., P.O. Box 4503, McAllen, TX 78502.
