Dr. Francis ‘Pat’ Long Jr.
Dr. Francis “Pat” Long Jr., Ph.D., 85, of Cranberry Township died Tuesday at Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, Cranberry Township.
Born Nov. 20, 1920, in Duquesne, he was the son of Francis P. and Henrietta Weir Long.
Dr. Long received a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock College, a master’s in education from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctor of education degree from West Virginia University.
He resided in Middlesex Township for 40 years, where he was very active in civic affairs and served on the township’s first planning commission.
Dr. Long was a school administrator in the Mars School District for 38 years and taught at Penn State. He served seven years as president of the Mars Area School Board after retirement. He was a very active member of the Mars Kiwanis for 40 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Mars VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Leith Long, whom he married Aug. 18, 1946; a son, Charles Long of California; a daughter, Rebecca Long and her husband, Andrew Jacovou, of Manhattan, N.Y.; brothers, Timothy Long of Colorado Springs, Colo., William Long of Chicago, Ill., Eugene Long of Duquesne, Frederick Long of West Mifflin and Robert Long of Elizabeth; and sisters, Mary Stewart of Clearwater, Fla., Hannah Thomas of Duquesne, Louise Pearis of West Mifflin and Patricia Bornyas of Elizabeth. Also surviving is his granddog, Coco.
Brothers, John and Richard Long preceded him in death.
LONG — Friends of Dr. Francis “Pat” Long Jr. Ph.D., who died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.
