Dorothy Catalfamo

Dorothy B. Catalfamo, 80, of Grove City passed away Friday at the VNA Inpatient Unit following a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Arcadia, Mo., to Edgar Ray and Willie Jones Bay.

She married Salvatore P. Catalfamo on Aug. 31, 1957.

She was a homemaker and a taxpayer assistant with the IRS. She formerly worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, a librarian, a driver for a mobile book unit in Ozarks, and she also was employed by the Office of Personnel Management in Boyers.

She received a BA in elementary education from Grove City College and a Master's in Library Science from Slippery Rock University.

Dorothy served in Germany as a SP3 Specialist (Corporal) in the U.S. Women's Army from 1955 to 1958, during the end of the Korean War and the beginning of the Vietnam Era. She met her husband who was also serving in the U.S. Army and they were married in Germany where they were both serving.

Dorothy and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing for entertainment and formerly helped teach classes at Dotty McGill's Dance Studio in Grove City.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Samuel R. Catalfamo of Sligo, Angela C. Tagg and her husband, Michael, of Ontario, Ohio, and Jeffrey A. Catalfamo and his wife, Michele, of Montgomery, N.Y.; her stepmother, Gene Bay of Ironton, Mo.; two sisters, Betsy Scott of Mesquite, Texas, and Rosalie Berkley and her husband, Robert, of Crestwood, Mo.; five grandchildren, Nicole Catalfamo of San Francisco, Maribeth and Mikey Tagg, both of Ontario, Ohio, and Samantha and Nicholas Catalfamo, both of Montgomery, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Catalfamo.

<B>CATALFAMO</B> — Friends of Dorothy B. Catalfamo, who died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Hoffman of the Church of the Beloved Disciple officiating.Burial will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to Richland County Special Olympics c/o Donna Shank, 422 Cline Ave., Mansfield, OH 44907-1022, or any charity for disabled veterans.
