Zombie 5K, fun run slated in Cranberry

CRANBERRY TWP — It’s almost time to get costumes and running shoes on for the Fourth Annual Cranberry Sunrise Rotary Zombie 5K and 1 Mile Candy Corn Family Fun Run and Walk on Oct. 27 at North Boundary Park.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the 5K race at 9 a.m. and the 1-Mile event at 10:15 a.m.

Carl Heinlein, race director for the Cranberry Rotary club, said everyone is encouraged to participate in a costume that reflects that person’s creativity for Halloween.

“It’s a family friendly event, and we give out prizes to the winners and the most original costumes,” said Heinlein.

Prizes are for the best costumes. Medals and prizes go to race winners.

The proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club’s Community Project Fund. The event has raised $15,000 for community projects in three years.

Those projects include a women’s shelter, community park projects and the completion of the Boy Scouts 100th Anniversary Memorial and fishing pond in Graham Park.

The race continues to grow every year, said Heinlein, and he encourages people to register early to ensure that participants receive a race T-shirt.

The entry fee is $20 for the 5K; $15 for the 1-Mile or $25 for both races up until Sunday. The family of four registration cost is $50.

The registration fees increase $5 after Sunday. Participants still may register the day of the race.

For information or to register, call Heinlein at 724-935-1650 or e-mail cwheinlein@acig.com or register online at: Race360.com/20069.
