2 others injured at July 13 rally
While much attention over the past year has been focused on Corey Comperatore — who was killed last year at the Butler Farm Show grounds during a campaign rally for then-candidate President Donald Trump — he was not the shooting’s only victim.
Two others — David Dutch, 58, of New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 75, of Coraopolis — also were seriously injured in the shooting.
Dutch was shot once in the abdomen, and two bullets hit Copenhaver. One went into his triceps, while another went into his abdomen and remains lodged in his body.
Over the past year, both men have signaled their intentions to file lawsuits against Butler County, Butler Township, where the Farm Show grounds are partially situated, and other government entities. Both have also gone public accusing the U.S. Secret Service of security lapses that allowed the shooting to occur.
A search of the Butler County Prothonotary Office reveals no cases under the name of either Dutch or Copenhaver, indicating that the lawsuit has not been filed yet.
Prior to the shooting, Dutch worked as a technician at Innomotics in New Kensington, a division of the tech giant Siemens. According to an interview with KDKA, he has not been able to return to work since the shooting.
