Moraine State Park already has 10 trails of varying lengths and difficulties, suitable for hiking, biking and/or horseback riding. Now the park is working on adding an 11th, located on the park’s north shore near the similarly-named boat launch.

According to David Murray of Civil Design Solutions, who is spearheading the project, the trail — which does not have a name yet — is 0.8 miles long and is geared toward visitors with mobility issues.

“This trail will be developed to have gentle slopes and easy access,” Murray said. “The route has been established but the work to create the formal trail has not started yet.”

Murray is also president of the Moraine Preservation Fund, the nonprofit which supports the park, and is working with the park to bring the new trail to life.

The park has said on social media that, in addition to scenic views of Lake Arthur, the new trail will provide easier access to environmental educational programming for school groups, as well as improved accessibility for users with limited mobility.

Volunteer work will take place between 10 a.m. and noon on July 26 and July 31. Volunteers will be expected to remove invasive plants and debris from the future trail.

Participants will meet at the Owlet Gift Shop on the North Shore. Some tools will be provided.
