Stewart drives to win at Daytona

Tony Stewart won the Pepsi 400 Saturday evening at the Daytona Raceway after making a veteran-like pass on rookie Boris Said with two laps remaining in the race.

Said, who won the pole for the 400, finished fourth. The Busch boys, Kyle and Kurt, finished second and third, respectively.

With 17 of the 36 scheduled Nextel Cup races completed, Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the points chase, with Matt Kenseth just eight points behind in second place.

The top 10 drivers in the points standing with 10 races remaining on the schedule will compete for the 2006 title.

A number of veteran drivers are all but eliminated from the chase, including Terry Labonte, Michael Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Ken Schrader, Robby Gordon, Joe Nemechek and Dale Jarrett.

The Nextel Cup Series will visit the Chicagoland Speedway Sunday for the running of the USG Sheetrock 400.

Lernerville Speedway

The regular season is slowing winding down at area tracks, including Lernerville. A number of special races are on tap at the Action Track, including the popular Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup World of Outlaws Sprint show scheduled for July 18. The winner of this race picks up $30,000. Fab 4 racing continues Friday night.

Sam Stile finally won a Late Model feature race at Lernerville. The 15-year veteran passed Bob Wearing Jr on the seventh lap, then pulled away from the field to notch the win.

Ed Lynch Jr. started on the pole for the Sprint feature. Enough said. The Apollo native picked up his third win of the season.

Sharon Speedway

Kevin Schaeffer of Kittanning led all 25 laps to win the Sprint feature Saturday night.

Fenelton's Russell Dunn vaulted into the E-Mod points lead with his second place finish behind Bob Diver of Canfield, Ohio.

Sharon has the World of Outlaws Late Models scheduled for Saturday night

Pittsburgh Motor Speedway

Lou Bradich of Chester, W.Va., continues to dominate the Late Model division with his sixth feature win of the season.

The track will have a regular program on tap Saturday evening, followed by the Penn National 40 for Late Models Sunday. The winner will take home $4,000.
