Don't blame Glassman

It is time to set the record straight. I have run into people who don't know who to blame for the fact that Brian Ellis' past record was thrown into the race for the Republican nomination for the 11th District state House seat.

Blame the political bosses in Harrisburg and, if you wish, hold it against their hand-picked candidate, Marci Mustello - but don't blame Bill Glassman.

Although I am not part of Glassman's campaign team in this race, I was in the 2002 race. At that time, I had heard rumors about Ellis' wrongdoings. I personally researched the allegations and found them to be true.

Rather than going public with them, I tried to inform Glassman about Ellis' record.

Glassman refused to even hear about Ellis' past. He told me he would not have anything to do with bringing dirt up about another candidate. He also made it clear that he would not allow anyone in his campaign to do so either.

True to his word, Glassman never pursued Ellis' past, and it never became part of the race in 2002 - a race in which Ellis beat Glassman by just over 100 votes.

Glassman had integrity then, even though it probably cost him the race. I know him to be a man of integrity now. Therefore, I resent the petty guesswork accusations about who might have been behind Ellis' "dirt" coming forward.

Blame whomever you wish, but don't blame Glassman.
