Central Electric asks people to conserve power

Central Electric Cooperative in Parker is asking its customers to conserve power today during peak usage time to help stabilize future electricity costs.

Central Electric issued a “Beat the Peak” alert for 1 to 7 p.m. asking members to raise the temperature on their thermostats a few degrees and to not use nonessential electrical items during that time.

The cooperative asks customers to shift the use of items such as dehumidifiers, pool pumps and electric appliances to hours outside of the peak period.

“Small adjustments in when, where, and how you use electricity do make a difference in energy costs during high demand periods. Avoiding peak energy costs is the perfect reason to put some chores on hold — at least until power demand dips. By decreasing electricity used during high demand periods — when prices are at their highest — everyone can help stabilize future power costs for all members,” according to Central Electric.
