Joseph D. Adams

Joseph D. Adams, 84, of Kaylor in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, died Sunday at his son's home in Lancaster Township, Butler County.

Born March 24, 1920, in Bradys Bend Township, he was the son of Ralph and Josephine Phillips Adams.

He attended Kaylor School during the Great Depression and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps to work in forestry and road construction in Maryland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was active in local Democratic politics.

Mr. Adams had been an engineer for the Western Allegheny Railroad and retired as a welder at Pullman Standard.

During World War II, he was a staff sergeant with Headquarters Co., 2nd Battalion, 328th Infantry, 26th Infantry Division and campaigned in the Rhineland and Northern France. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, a Good Conduct Medal, an American Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, where he was an usher and a volunteer for activities. He also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, General Butler Chapter 64.

Surviving are a son, David E. Adams of Lancaster Township; a daughter, Cecelia E. Adams of Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County; three brothers, Samuel Adams of Sugarcreek Township, Leo Adams of East Brady and Andrew Adams of Epsyville; three sisters, Anna Stevenson of Chicora and Nora Eyth and Josephine Stivision, both of Butler.

His wife, Rosalie T. Zavilla Adams, whom he married Aug. 4, 1946, died Aug. 15, 2002. Three sisters and six brothers also preceded him in death.

ADAMS - Friends of Joseph D. Adams, who died Sunday, May 16, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at CHARLES B. BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Fourth St., East Brady. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St Patrick Church, Bradys Bend. The Rev. Anthony Ditto will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Bradys Bend.Bradys Bend American Legion Post 488 will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
