A Wexford woman charged with hindering apprehension and child endangerment in the death of 4-year-old Bentley Thomas Miller on March 21 has had all charges against her held for court.

Kristen Lee Herold, 43, of Salisbury Court, will face two felony counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution and one misdemeanor count each of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, District Judge Kevin O'Donnell ruled today.

O'Donnell also denied a defense request to reduce Herold's bond, and she remains in Butler County Prison on $200,000 monetary bond.

Herold's preliminary hearing went off at about 1 p.m. Thursday in Courtroom 2 of the Butler County Government Center, where it was moved from O'Donnell's district court in Butler Township. It included testy exchanges between defense attorney Al Lindsay, who is representing Herold, and detective. Thomas Vensel of Butler Township Police, and assistant district attorney Terri Schultz, who is handling the government's case.

Vensel was the sole witness called to the stand before O'Donnell, testifying that Herold gave police and firefighters incorrect information about where Bentley had been staying when she picked him up on the morning of March 21. Vensel also testified that Herold later helped the sole suspect in Bentley's death, her son Keith Jordan Lambing, avoid apprehension until they were found hiding in a home on Walker Avenue in Butler.

Lindsay pushed back against that narrative, arguing that Herold had simply mixed up the names of the hotels along Route 8, and telling reporters after the hearing that Herold had been taking the boy to a hospital, not to his father's house as prosecutors have said, when he became unresponsive in her vehicle and later died.
