Carnival worker jailed in drug case

WORTHINGTON, Armstrong County — A carnival worker from Rhode Island remains jailed on felony drug charges after police say they caught him this week with half a pound of suspected marijuana at a camper trailer at the Worthington Carnival.

The “strong odor” of raw marijuana caught the attention of a trooper patrolling the carnival grounds at the Worthington-West Franklin Volunteer Fire Department station on Bear Street about 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to a police report.

The officer followed his nose to the camper parked behind the rides. Inside, police found the suspect, Gary Scott Bryant, 50, of Woonsocket, along with the alleged dope and $1,549 in currency.

Police seized the contraband and took Bryant to the Kittanning station. He was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Bryant also was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount or marijuana.

He was placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $15,000 bail following arraignment. A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the office of District Judge James Owen in Kittanning.
