Harold Ford McDeavitt, 85, of Slippery Rock died Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 9, 1923, in West Liberty, he was the son of Daniel Ford and Elizabeth Dixson McDeavitt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean McDeavitt, who died Nov. 6, 1986.

He was retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube and he worked for Slippery Rock Community Park for 17 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church.

He was a WWII Army veteran. He loved gardening, sitting on the porch and visiting with friends.

He is survived by one daughter, Anita Lynne Holmes of Slippery Rock; one sister, Betty Staley of Slippery Rock; two brothers, Daniel McDeavitt and Donald McDeavitt, both of Slippery Rock; and one grandson, Charles William Holmes of Slippery Rock.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Sheridan and Manse.
