Butler mother, sons sentenced to prison in 2024 Franklin Township attempted robbery

A mother and her two sons will serve prison time for an attempted robbery in July 2024 in Franklin Township where the sons shot a man’s vehicle as he fled.

Jerry Bodish Jr., 23, and Anthony Bodish Jr., 19, were sentenced to 18 to 40 months of confinement in Butler County Prison and 12 months of probation in a Wednesday, June 18 hearing before Butler Common Pleas Judge Timothy McCune. For her role in the attempted burglary just after 5 a.m. July 29, their mother, Ashley D. Thomas, 40, was sentenced to 15 to 36 months of confinement in state prison and 12 months of probation.

The three were granted 323 days' credit for time already served and must pay the victim $3,720 in restitution.

The Bodishes pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to commit burglary, and Thomas pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to commit burglary and misdemeanor conspiracy to commit theft in a June 9 hearing.

State police said a man reported the incident to Zelienople police July 30 and spoke to state troopers.

The man reportedly told troopers the Bodishes shot his car while he was visiting Thomas at her home. Police said Thomas invited him to her house just before 11 p.m. and entered the front passenger seat of his vehicle when he arrived.

The two spoke for about 10 minutes before Anthony Bodish approached the vehicle and punched the man in the face through the driver’s side window. Thomas exited the car as the man tried to defend himself.

Police said the man then put the car in reverse and backed down the driveway as both Bodishes approached his vehicle with long guns. Anthony Bodish approached the driver’s side window, and Jerry Bodish approached the passenger side window, both with their guns pointed at the man’s head, he said.

The man then turned his car around and fled the scene. The man heard several gunshots, and police saw several bullet holes in the back of his car, they said.

Police interviewed the brothers July 30. Jerry Bodish told police he and Thomas decided to invite the man over and rob him of controlled substances they suspected he would be carrying. Thomas then told Anthony Bodish, who agreed to act as a lookout.

Anthony Bodish told police he was acting as a lookout when Jerry Bodish and Thomas approached the man. Anthony Bodish approached and punched the man multiple times through the open window.

Jerry Bodish told police he attempted to get controlled substances from the man but was denied. After their mother exited the vehicle, Jerry Bodish fired two shotgun rounds into the vehicle. Anthony Bodish fired one round into the vehicle, police said.
