Saxonburg native plays in playhouse musical
Native daughter Allison Cahill will appear in the world premiere of Marcus Stevens' new musical, "Eastburn Avenue," being staged by the REP, Point Park University's professional theater company.
The show will go on from May 29 to June 15 at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, 222 Craft Ave.
The former Saxonburg resident appeared in the area most recently as Golde in Pittsburgh Musical Theater's "Fiddler on the Roof."
Other professional credits include Molly in Civic Light Opera's "The Full Monty," Irena in "The Music Lesson," Ellen in "The Art of Dining," Ethel in "Barefoot in the Park," Amanda in "The Glass Menagerie" and Roxie in PMT's "Chicago."
Cahill is set to appear as Kimberly in "Kimberly Akimbo" in October and in a one-woman play "Seasons Greetings" in December, both at Off the Wall Theatre in Washington, Pa.
"Eastburn Avenue" follows the humorous and heartbreaking story of a quirky Jewish family as they examine who they were, who they are and who they are becoming. As they come to terms with what they find, they are forced to deal with the pleasant and painful consequences of what they've inherited.
In addition to Cahill, the cast includes Marcus Stevens, Daina Michelle Griffith, Daniel Krell, Lisa Ann Goldsmith, Amy Landis, Jeremy Czarniak and Bill Nabel. Music direction is by Douglas Levine, set design by Tony Ferrieri, costumes by Joan Markert, lights by Andrew David Ostrowski and sound by Elizabeth Atkinson.
Performances of "Eastburn Avenue" will be held at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in the Studio Theater.
Tickets range in price from $24 to $27 and are available by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-621-4445 or online at www.pittsburghplayhouse.com. Visit Marcus Stevens' blog at www.marcusastevens.wordpress.com for an inside look at the development of the show.
