Police: Karns City man removed from Iron Mountain property in Cherry Township
A Karns City man carrying controlled substances reportedly attempted to enter Iron Mountain’s Western Pennsylvania Data Center in April, according to state police.
Shaun D. Sheakley, 46, was charged June 2 following the alleged attempt. He was charged with one misdemeanor count each of controlled substance possession, drug paraphernalia possession and marijuana possession following the alleged April 30 incident.
Police said they responded to calls from Iron Mountain security about Sheakley attempting to enter the facility and becoming agitated when stopped.
Security seized a bag from Sheakley containing more than 50 glassine bags of suspected fentanyl, a small amount of marijuana and related paraphernalia, police said.
Sheakley was removed from the property and released.
His preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. July 15.
Former Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk brought national attention to the facility in February with comments about the Office of Personnel Management’s headquarters within the complex. He inaccurately said the speed at which the office can process retirement claims depends on the facility’s mineshaft elevator, which multiple employees debunked.
Iron Mountain operates the 233-acre facility about 220 feet underground in a former limestone mine and contracts with government and private entities, according to the company’s website.
