Lancaster supervisors move to hire 2 employees, approve budgeted expenses

LANCASTER TWP — Supervisors authorized the hiring of two part-time road employees during a meeting Monday, June 16.

Roadmaster and code enforcement officer Ed Spurk said his staff has been busy with in-house projects and could use the extra assistance as summer progresses.

Township officials hope to hire at least one employee in the coming weeks at a rate of $20.25 per hour, pending successful drug and background screenings.

In another move related to employment, supervisors approved a payment of about $7,300 for the district administrator/authority director position as part of the intergovernmental agreement with Jackson Township, Harmony and Zelienople.

Altogether, Lancaster Township will annually contribute $14,625 for the position. The payments were split into two equal installments per year to lessen the burden on the participating municipalities.

The position will handle administrative functions for the Harmony Fire District and manage stormwater issues for the authority.

Supervisors also approved a $7,000 budgeted donation to the Zelienople Area Public Library. That library is scheduled to undergo significant renovations later this month.

The township also will recoup some funding thanks to the sale of two police vehicles that were listed on Municibid, a government auctions website.

One vehicle sold for $9,300 and the other for $8,500.

“We did pretty well,” said township manager Mary Hess. “We didn’t expect to get that much.”

Hess also noted that officials are working to fully update the municipality’s new website by fixing several broken links. Township supervisors approved a contract with Revize, a municipal website design company, in August 2024.
