Ellwood City man injured in police chase across counties

An Ellwood City man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after sustaining injuries when he led police on a chase Tuesday, June 10, from Butler County to Lawrence County, according to a state police.

State police said troopers encountered a silver Ford Explorer when patrolling around 6:30 a.m. It had crashed into a utility pole in Muddy Creek Township, police said.

According to police, the 78-year-old man fled the scene in the vehicle after being told to wait. A pursuit ensued and ended in Perry Township, Lawrence County, with the driver spinning out and striking a guardrail, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Police said the man was partially ejected from the passenger side of the vehicle and flown by STAT Medevac to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

The release did not name the man or list any potential charges. It lists the investigation as ongoing.
