Helen Ferguson was recently elected president of the Woman's Club of Butler.

Other officers include first vice president Courtney Rape, second vice president Dorothy Kriley, recording secretary Marian Lechner, corresponding secretary Flora Black, treasurer Ruth Van Buren, assistant treasurer Gloria Krieger and parliamentarian Mary Phillips.

"Helping Others"

is the club theme for the next two years. In keeping with this, members will bring items each month to support Victim Outreach Intervention Center.

They also knit caps and lap robes for VOICe and Children and Youth Services. Habitat for Humanity is the GFWC Pennsylvania state project and will be an area of emphasis.

Meetings are at 1:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at the YWCA, 120 W. Cunningham St. For membership information, call Dorothy Kriley at 724-287-4119.

Ferguson is a 20-year member of the club. She has served as first vice president as well as on the conservation and education committees for many years.

She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Slippery Rock State Teacher's College and her masters degree from Indiana State Teacher's College.

A life member of the National Education Association, PASR and the Butler County Chapter of PASR, she is retired from the Butler School System.

She is a past president of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a past president of the Butler County Chapter of PASR and past Region 8 director of PASR. At present, she is Region 8 pre-retirement chairman of PASR.

In September 2004, she was awarded the John Dillon Outstanding PASR Volunteer Award by the Butler County chapter.

She is also a member of the National Audubon Society and past president of the Bartramian Audubon Society of Slippery Rock, where she is a past education chairman. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation in 2000 from the society for 30 years of dedicated participation in the annual bird count sponsored by the National Audubon Society.

She is a past deacon and present elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church and a past president of the Butler Friends of the Library.

Darlene Dietrich,

daughter of Ken and Mary Ann Dietrich of Butler, recently received a Cameos of Caring award in nursing.

A registered nurse, she works in the surgical inpatient unit in the University Drive Division of the Veterans Association Pittsburgh Healthcare System.

Dietrich is a graduate of Knoch High School and the Duquesne University School of Nursing. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at Waynesburg College.

The Butler Outdoor Club

has announced the finalists for it's Outstanding Contribution Award for 2004.

Finalists are:

Paul Egbert

of Wind and Water Boatworks for his work with the 3MJC, the Moraine Regatta, the Sail for Community Care Connections, WPPSA and the Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement;

Glenn Oster

for his involvement in the Butler Outdoor Club, Keystone Trails Association, Allegheny Youth Hostels and the North Country Trail Association;

Ruth Roperti

for her involvement in the Moraine Preservation Fund and the 3MJC;

Mike Wolfe

for his involvement in the Boy Scout Program and PA Cleanways.

Skye's Spirit Wildlife Rehab and Education Center

was also recognized for its work rehabilitating orphaned and injured wildlife.

The award recipient will be named at the club's annual dinner on Nov. 13 at the East Butler Fire Hall. Cost for the dinner is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
