Michelle Obama gushes over G-20 performance

PITTSBURGH — Hey, Michelle Obama — what's on your iPod?

Sara Bareilles, among other things.

If the singer-songwriter didn't know already, she — and plenty of other people, too — now know that the first lady is one of her biggest fans.

"I love her," Obama gushed Friday, giving a shout-out to Bareilles for the performance she was giving at a concert the first lady organized for students at the Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School.

"She is on my iPod. She has gotten me through many a day," the first lady said, ticking off the names of two of Bareilles' songs, "Gravity" and "Love Song." Bareilles performed the latter selection during the show.

Obama could hardly contain her excitement as she said country crooner Trisha Yearwood, "another of my favorites," and cellist Yo-Yo Ma would be performing.

"You know, what more is there to say?" she said after uttering the world famous cellist's name. "I'm just (as) excited as you all."

Smiles all around?

Smiles, everyone, smiles.

This G-20's "class photo" lacked, shall we say, enthusiastic buy-in from all the leaders involved. In a room confined by drapes and tall black pipes, the men and women who run the world clustered to have their Kodak moment together.

"Everyone say cheese," Obama said. He grinned, and some of his fellow leaders smiled in less-thrilled ways. After a few moments — flash, click, flash, click — the president pronounced the proceedings complete. "OK, guys," he said. "One of those must have worked."

Next came a rather disorganized exit. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Obama did a little footwork trying to defer to each other before Hu finally walked out first.
