Man gets 3-6 years in state prison

A 30-year-old Butler man incarcerated in SCI Greene in Greene County was resentenced Friday to serve 3 to 6 years in state prison followed by 24 months of probation on numerous theft charges and other charges in seven cases after he was removed an intermediate punishment treatment program.

Ryan Zachary Wilson, who attended the hearing by video from the prison, was sentenced by Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge William Shaffer.

Wilson pleaded guilty in the cases in 2019 and was given an alternative sentence of intermediate punishment, but didn't complete the program and was removed from it, said Mark Lope, assistant district attorney.

Public defender Maura Palumbi said Wilson should be given credit for serving 851 days in prison.

Six of the seven cases in which Wilson was charged occurred in 2018 and one took place in 2017. Butler city and Butler Township police filed the charges.

In a July 2017 case, Wilson was charged with a misdemeanor count of intimidation of witnesses or victims. He was sentenced to prison and given credit for 135 days of time served.

In an August 2018 incident in which he was charged with a felony count of criminal conspiracy to engage in retail theft, Wilson was sentenced to prison, ordered to pay a share of $1,299 in restitution to Sam's Club and given credit for 135 days of time served. A co-defendant is responsible for the other share of the restitution.

In a December 2018 case, he was charged with five counts of criminal conspiracy to engage in retail theft. In addition to the prison term, he was sentenced to pay a share of $1.041 in restitution to Walmart. Two co-defendants are responsible for other shares of the restitution.

In another case from December 2018, Wilson was charged with a felony count of retail theft. In addition to the jail term, he was ordered to pay $628 in restitution to Lowes and given credit for 135 days of time served.

In a third case from December 2018, Wilson was charged with felony counts of aggravated assault, robbery, retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft; misdemeanor counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct; and a summary harassment charge. He was sentenced to prison and given 311 days credit for time served.

In a fourth case from December 2018, Wilson was charged with a felony count of retail theft. He was sentenced to probation and to pay $299 in restitution to Kohl's.

In a fifth case from December 2018, Wilson was charged with felony counts of trespass and criminal conspiracy to engage in trespassing and a misdemeanor count of simple assault. He was sentenced to probation.
