ZELIENOPLE — Authorities clarified the initial description of a man who robbed the NexTier Bank in Zelienople Tuesday, as police continue their search.

The FBI, Pittsburgh Division, on Wednesday described the suspect as a black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a black sweat shirt and pants with a white T-shirt, black mask and sneakers.

“The robber demanded money and left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money,” the FBI new release said. “No one was injured and no weapon was displayed.”

Initial witness reports described the suspect as white and armed.

Zelienople Police Chief Jim Miller said police first received reports of the robbery at 3:33 p.m. and officers arrived three minutes later.

The suspect was only in the bank a few minutes before fleeing north down an alley behind the bank, Miller said.

About half a dozen people were in the bank at the time and no one was injured. In the immediate aftermath of the robbery one woman was treated for shortness of breath, officer Bret Myers said.

As officers interviewed witnesses, a K9 unit was dispatched to the scene but was unable to locate the suspect.
