Police raid Butler home in drug bust

5 suspects are arrested for alleged crack cocaine deals

An investigation into alleged crack cocaine trafficking at a Butler home culminated Wednesday night in a police raid and the arrest of five suspects.

Members of the Butler County Drug Task Force seized suspected crack and drug paraphernalia at the West Cunningham Street house, said Pat Cannon, a county detective and task force coordinator.

Cannon said the investigation followed several calls by neighbors concerned over what they believed was drug activity at the 424 W. Cunningham St. home of Justin Green.

Officers about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday went to the house with a search warrant obtained after undercover officers bought crack there as part of the investigation, Cannon said.

Authorities determined that Green, 25, was "allowing his residence to be used for illegal drug sales,"according to court documents.

Officers in the raid, watched by a number of neighbors gathered outside, arrested Green and four others. Asearch of the house, documents said, turned up suspected crack, a digital scale, packaging materials and crack pipes.

Also charged are Beth Brokenbek, 30, of Lyndora; Dustin Ries, 21, no known address; Shawn Ray McDonald, 19, no known address; and Deanna Russo, 37, of Butler.

Green is charged with possession with intent to deliver crack, and possession of crack and drug paraphernalia.

Green, in a separate case, also was arraigned on drug delivery and other charges for allegedly selling $50 in crack to an undercover officer June 12, documents said.

Brokenbek and Ries are charged with possession of crack; Brokenbek is also charged with possession of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia. Russo is accused of possession of a prescription drug.

Authorities said Russo would receive her charge by mail.

McDonald is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he was arraigned on charges filed March 5 stemming from a drunken-driving arrest on Morton Avenue.

Butler police in the March case charged McDonald with driving under the influence, careless driving, driving too fast for conditions and diving a vehicle without inspection.

Green and McDonald are in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bond each, while Ries is jailed on $2,500 bond. Brokenbek is free after posting $2,500 bail.

Preliminary hearings for Green, Brokenbek, Ries and McDonald are scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m. Monday before District Judge Peter Shaffer. Russo's hearing is set for 2 p.m. July 23.
