Curt Schilling earned his 14th career save - first as Boston's temporary closer - in Tuesday night's 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay. It was Schilling's first save since 1992, when he was with Philadelphia. He went 375 games, 368 starts and 2,667 innings between saves. ... Jesse Crain (9-1) leads the Twins in victories after pitching a scoreless ninth in Minnesota's 4-3 win over Baltimore.
CUTTING IT CLOSE
Minnesota beat Baltimore 4-3 Tuesday night when B.J. Ryan blew his fifth save in 26 chances. Each of Minnesota's six games since the All-Star break have been decided by one run, but the Twins have won only two of those.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Arizona's Royce Clayton went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs in a 6-3 loss to Florida on Tuesday night. ... Pittsburgh's Ryan Doumit homered twice in a 9-3 loss to Houston.
INJURED
New York Yankees outfielder Ruben Sierra was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left hamstring. Sierra was hurt while running to first base Monday night. He also went on the disabled list in April and missed 24 games with a partial tear in the biceps muscle in his right arm.
