Joseph H. Fisher

Joseph H. Fisher, 85, of Newark, Del., formerly of Butler, died Wednesday at his home at Churchman Village in Newark.

Born in Butler, Aug. 7, 1918, he was the son of Joseph Fisher and Marjorie Emerick Fisher Monroe.

He was a 1937 graduate of Butler High School and had been physical education instructor at the Butler YMCA. Following graduation from high school, he worked in Butler for several years as a master auto mechanic prior to enlisting in the Army.

He served three years with the 1885th Engineering Aviation Battalion and was recommended for officer candidacy.

Shortly after discharge, he accepted a position with Chrysler Corp. and enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer in a variety of capacities. He earned many honors and distinctions, including a quality engineering certificate with a score of 98 percent. While at Chrysler, he continued his engineering education at the University of Pittsburgh. He retired as a product quality engineer in 1975 after 30 years with the company.

A 56-year member of the Masonic order, he belonged to the Masonic Blue Lodge 272, Butler; Valley of Erie Consistory, Erie; and the Syria Shrine Temple, Pittsburgh. He also attended Masonic meetings in Newark.

He enjoyed golfing, camping and fishing, especially on the lake in Belgrade, Maine.

His beloved wife of 56 years, Lucetta M. Swigart Fisher, died in 2001.

Surviving are three children, Deborah L. Burgun, Diane L. Beauchamp and Jeffrey H. Fisher, all of Newark; five grandchildren, Nathan J., Jennifer C., Daniel J. and Emily J. Burgun and Nicole S. Fisher, all of Newark; a brother-in-law, Dale Swigart of Butler; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Swigart of Gallup, N.M.

, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, Del. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Visitation also will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at

THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME

, 124 E. North St., where services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Summit Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
