James Michael Smolen

James Michael Smolen, 49, of Cabot died Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 8, 1955, in Butler, he was the son of Leo and Gladys Edwards Smolen.

Mr. Smolen worked as a bricklayer for AK Steel for 18 years, and he previously worked at Pullman-Standard and Walker Electric in Butler.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Men's Club in Herman.

He also was a member of the H.O.G. Chapter of the Harley Group. He enjoyed riding Harleys, hunting, fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Schiebel Smolen, whom he married May 8, 1976; a daughter, Andrea Smolen; three sons, Jesse, Joshua and Jeffrey Smolen, all at home; his mother of Saxonburg; and a brother, Maj. Gen. Robert Smolen of Springfield, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister.

SMOLEN - Friends of James Michael Smolen, who died Friday, April 15, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday and Monday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herman. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western Pennsylvania, Two Gateway Center, 13N, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
