Blood drive set to help Chicora man
FAIRVIEW TWP — A blood drive and bone marrow screening to help a Chicora man with leukemia is being held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Karns City High School cafeteria.
The drive is for Nathan Lambert, 31, who needs a stem cell transplant as part of his treatment for acute myelogenous leukemia at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Acute myelogenous leukemia involves abnormal cells in bone marrow that grow quickly and replace healthy blood cells. These patients are prone to infections.
With a simple mouth swab, participants can join a national registry for bone marrow donors.
Also, to donate blood, visit www.centralbloodbank.org and use sponsor code ZRTN0822 to schedule an appointment or call Kelly Terwilliger, 724-399-4222.
The high school is at 1446 Kittanning Pike.
