John E. Snowden Jr.
John E. Snowden Jr., 83, of Country Club Drive, Ellwood City, North Sewickley Township, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born on Nov. 23, 1930, in New Brighton, he was the son of the late John E. and Ruth Ritter Snowden Sr.
He was first married on April 13, 1957, to Anna Mae Herrmann Snowden, who passed away on March 12, 1999. He is survived by his current wife, Patricia Alberth Snowden, who he married in August 2001.
Jack retired in 1992 from the Westinghouse Corp. Following his retirement, he continued working at the Butler Auto Auction for 16 years.
He was an active member of the Concord United Methodist Church. Jack was a member of the Men of Melody singing group.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Theatres on the USS Arnett and the USS Marquette.
Jack enjoyed running, swimming and ballroom dancing.
In addition to his wife, Pat, survivors include his four daughters, Diane Terry of Ellwood City, RuthAnne (Kenneth) Frederick of Harmony, Karen (Paul) Hunter of Enon Valley and Carol (Allen) Bowman of Texas; his son, David (Lynn) Snowden of Ellwood City; his stepdaughter, Lisa (Larry) Brown of New York, N.Y.; his stepson, Chris (Angela) Alberth of Fombell; his sister, Molly Walsh of New Brighton; his brother, Alford Snowden of Missouri; his two sisters-in-law, Joyce Snowden of Greenville and Hope Snowden of Florida; his brother-in-law, Roy Herrmann of Sandy Lake; his 18 grandchildren; and his 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his sister, Naomi Taylor; and his two brothers, Robert and Donald Snowden.
Snowden — Visiting hours for John E. Snowden Jr., who passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.Friends also will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Concord United Methodist Church with his pastor, the Rev. Bradley Neel, officiating.
