CENTRE HALL — A couple of newlyweds are behind bars after police say they were caught shoplifting food from a supermarket for their wedding reception.
The Centre Daily Times reports 32-year-old Arthur Phillips III and his bride, 22-year-old Brittany Lurch, were arrested Saturday after taking more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Wegmans supermarket in State College.
Police say the newlyweds told officers they'd been married a couple days earlier and took the food for their wedding reception that afternoon.
JOHNSTOWN — A Johnstown-area man is selling his 1967 Lincoln Continental convertible which appeared in the 1976 cult classic ‘Slap Shot' that was loosely based on the city's then-minor league hockey team, the Johnstown Jets.Karl Scott Jr., 95, says he's selling the car because a stroke in April left him unable to drive.The model is popular because of the so-called “suicide doors” which swing open in opposite directions on both sides of the four-door vehicle.Scott, a retired grocer, wants $18,000 for the car, which has only 84,000 miles on it.
CATASAUQUA — Students in the Catasauqua School District have gotten approval to remain fashion forward.An Allentown newspaper reports the district this week approved a revised dress code allowing “skinny” jeans.The tight-fitting jeans had been banned under an earlier dress code. But parents complained they were having a hard time finding any jeans that wouldn't be banned under the district's definition.Board member Patricia Snyder said the district was trying to prevent students from wearing suggestive clothing. But ultimately the district determined jeans could be skinny but still appropriate.
