Possible child luring case explored

Butler police are investigating a possible case of child luring late Tuesday night outside a convenience store on West Jefferson Street near Cunningham Street.

A 16-year-old Butler girl told police she was sitting at the side of the building near a pay phone when an unknown white man driving a light blue Cadillac pulled up and parked on West Jefferson Street.

She described the man as being 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall, having white hair and a “large belly,” a police report said.

The man went to the pay phone and then spoke to the 16-year-old and another girl. He asked if they wanted to go for a ride.

Both girls declined and walked away. But, they said, the suspect followed them, telling them he “liked younger girls,” the report said.

He pulled out a wad of money and claimed he owned a business, while continuing to follow the girls and asking them to go with him, police said.

The man eventually got into his car and drove away.

The girls told police the suspect was dressed in a red plaid shirt and gray basketball shorts. He wore eyeglasses on his head.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 724-287-7743.
