PITTSBURGH — Steelers kicker Jeff Reed pleaded guilty Friday to disorderly contest and criminal mischief after police say he broke a towel dispenser in a convenience store.

Reed pleaded guilty to the two summary offenses, which are similar to traffic tickets. He was fined $543.50.

Police say Reed was infuriated Feb. 14 at a convenience store in New Alexandria, a tiny borough about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, because its restroom didn't have any towels.

Police say he broke the dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.

Reed made 27 of 31 field goals and 36 of 37 PATs for 117 points in his seventh season with the Steelers, who beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in the Super Bowl.

SALT LAKE CITY — Larry H. Miller, the car sales mogul who turned the Utah Jazz into one of the NBA's most stable teams, died Friday from complications of type 2 diabetes. He was 64.Miller was at home with his family when he died around 4 p.m.Miller had a heart attack in June 2008, then spent nearly two months in the hospital for complications from diabetes.

The WTA fined Dubai Tennis Championships organizers a record $300,000 Friday after Israeli player Shahar Peer was denied a visa by the United Arab Emirates.The Women's Tennis Association also took steps to compensate Peer and ensure she and other Israeli players won't be shut out of future tournaments in the federation.Organizers said at the time that they feared fan anger over Israel's recent military offensive in the Gaza Strip would spill into riots if Peer were to play. The UAE and Israel do not have diplomatic relations.

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Citing what its president called "inescapable financial realities," the University of Vermont pulled the plug Friday on its men's baseball and women's softball teams.The elimination of the two teams will save $836,000, and the athletic department layoffs will save $247,000, according to the university.The athletic department cuts spell the end for a Catamounts baseball program that has fielded a team continuously since 1888, except for six years in the early 1970s. The softball program began in 1974.Students on scholarship will be able to continue to attend UVM tuition-free if they decide to stay.
